Coffee & Cookie Day 2013

Coffee & Cookie Day has come and gone. I am exhausted from it.

Less students are in our Spanish classes this year - and with the changes in my own schedule, we had far fewer students between mine and Mr. McMonagle's classes. We weren't sure if we'd beat last year's total of $957, which was our goal. The odds were against us, but we didn't want to let Make-A-Wish down.

Student brought in TONS of cookies, brownies, milk, hot chocolate, etc. We even had some students bring in donuts, Eat 'N Park Smiley Cookies, and one student even MADE chocolate-covered strawberries (they looked professionally-made, too!)!  Dozen Bake Shop donated a spectacular tray of goodies and cake pops, and The Greek Gourmet donated their fabulous hummus packs again (you'd better believe that I bought one for my lunch!). I spent a lot of time running around Costco and baking cookies myself (which you'll get to learn about a bit later...)

I loved my hummus so much, I finished it through a stir straw. The Greek Gourmet makes the BEST and most ORIGINAL hummus! I think I grossed out the student who took this picture, though.  Sorry, Sara!

We should've just propped the door of D101 open, for as many times as it opened and closed throughout the day. Students, teachers, teacher aides, security guards...that door withstood a lot of swinging.  In addition, most people were overly generous, often telling us to "keep the change" or just donating money without buying any goodies.

UPDATE: Our final total was $1072!!!  You guys are AMAZING!  We BEAT last year's total by $115 - and we were afraid we wouldn't get anywhere near that with less students participating!!!

Thanks to all who bought cookies, and a very special thanks to Dozen Bake Shop and The Greek Gourmet for their donations.  Your generosity is very much appreciated by me and everyone who enjoyed your food!

...Coffee & Cookie Day: The Final Numbers

So proud.

Coffee & Cookie Day came and went.  So, so many cookies were brought in between my classes and Mr. McMonagle's.  My classroom smelled like a bakery that had just opened it's doors for the day - cookies in the display case, with some still in the oven, the smell of coffee in the air for those who enjoyed the combination.

I baked my Oatmeal Maple Raisin cookies - about 7 dozen:

Students brought in anything from M&M, to chocolate chip, to sugar cookies.  Some bought packages of cookies, which is totally fine - students will buy anything with which they are familiar:

 We had cookies and other pastries generously donated by Sugar Cafe, Oakmont Bakery (thanks to James), and Vanilla Pastry (those were in Mr. McMonagle's room):

 Greek Gourmet in Squirrel Hill even donated some hummus and pretzel/carrot snack boxes for us to sell!  They went pretty quickly (I had one as my lunch - homemade hummus is definitely the way to go!)!:

  I strategically set up carts for adding cream and sugar to coffee, and adding tea and hot chocolate mixes to hot water:

And after a long, busy day of hustling all of these, our total at the end of the day, between both my room and Mr. McMonagle's was...

$913.93! 

But WAIT!  We did have cookies left over, so the students in charge of the You Light Up My Heart Dance that night said that they would continue to sell our cookies, and give us the money - all of it - for Make-A-Wish!  Amazing!

So what was the FINAL total???

$953.93!!!!

I am incredibly proud of everyone for their accomplishments.  At LEAST one child will get his or her wish granted as a result of our efforts.  Thanks to the students who donated items, anyone who donated cookies, coffee, sugar, napkins, plates, plasticware, etc., and anyone who spent or donated any amount of money toward this total.

Next year, our goal will be $1000.00 - and we will surpass it, I'm sure...
